Gunmen fired at the car of a senior Palestinian security official in the Gazan town of Rafah on Saturday morning, injuring him, his bodyguard and a girl, medical sources said.

The car that was fired upon belonged to Hassan Jarbouh, the deputy director of the Rafah branch of the Preventive Security Service, which is allied with President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement. Jarbouh was in critical condition, while the bodyguard and the girl, a bystander, were moderately injured, the medical sources said.

Earlier Saturday, gunmen from Fatah and Hamas traded fire for a few minutes in the area of Abbas' compound and the nearby Hamas-run Foreign Ministry in Gaza City.
