Fujairah Scientific and Cultural Centre and ICDL GCC Foundation broaden cooperation in furthering IT literacy

Fujairah Scientific and Cultural Centre, one of the Fujairah Welfare Association organizations serving the needs of the residents of Fujairah and the East Coast, have signed an agreement with the ICDL GCC Foundation, the governing body of the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) programme in the Gulf States, in a bid to broadens cooperation between the two organisations in furthering IT skills of UAE nationals working in the governmental and educational organizations in the Emirate of Fujairah and the East Coast.

The agreement was signed recently at the ICDL GCC Foundation offices in Dubai Internet City by H.E. Saeed bin Mohammed Al Raqbani, UAE Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and Chairman, Fujairah Welfare Association, representing Fujairah Scientific and Cultural Centre, and Jamil Ezzo, Director General of ICDL GCC Foundation.

With this signed agreement, Fujairah Scientific and Cultural Centre will expand the implementation of the ICDL programme in Fujairah and the East Coast, with the support of H.H. Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, to develop the IT skills of the UAE nationals working in the governmental and educational sectors, contributing to the overall administrative and educational development of its residents with the basic technological skills to build an all inclusive digital society.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Fujairah Scientific and Cultural Centre will provide the infrastructure and the qualified human resources required for the successful implementation of the national project covered in the agreement and envisioned by H.E Saeed Mohammed Al Raqbani. The Centre will ensure that the international standards and regulations of the ICDL programme are followed in the provision of training and testing in the Emirate. . The Foundation will in turn establish a local branch within the Centre to provide local support and and to ensure that the delivery of the programme subscribes to the global ICDL certification standards developed by European Computer Driving Licence Foundation. The Centre will, in cooperation with the ICDL GCC Foundation, promote IT literacy, including the organization of summer camps..

“Our decision to expand on the implementation of the ICDL programme in the Emirate of Fujairah and the East Coast, will provide a significant boost to our efforts in spreading IT literacy in society,” said Al Raqbani. “With this agreement, we can now actively pursue our primary objective of implementing the national projects aimed at raising computer literacy and developing the IT skills of UAE Nationals in the governmental and educational organizations.”

The agreement has cemented a long term partnership that will contribute to the overall development of the Emirate of Fujairah,” he concluded.
