Ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's eldest son Uday was in hiding in the capital Baghdad on May 22 and had contemplated surrendering to American forces, Irish state radio RTE reported on Tuesday, quoting Uday's former body double.

RTE said former double Latif Yahia, who is living in Ireland, had been given the information by a mutual friend in Baghdad on May 23.

The friend told Yahia that Uday, who was left partially paralyzed after a failed attempt to kill him several years ago, had stayed with him and wanted to surrender but kept on changing his mind.

"He sits in his wheelchair crying, he can't go outside because he knows he'll be killed," Yahia said, according to the report. (Albawaba.com)
