A model of a ship large enough to house 17,000 residences, 3,000 commercial units, a school and a hospital has sailed into Dubai as part of the Investment and Property Show, The Gulf News reported Wednesday.
The 12-foot long model of the Freedom Ship is in Dubai to attract investment for the $8 billion floating city project. The Freedom Ship, brainchild of an American engineer, is being represented in the UAE by the Bandooq Group, the daily said.
The group's acting managing director Khalil Joudi said the Freedom Ship would be the biggest ship in the world. And when it sets sail, it will continuously circle the globe, covering most of the world's coastal regions over a two-year cycle.
It will spend 25 percent of its time moving and the rest of the time offshore, where a fleet of air and sea transport vehicles will shuttle people from ship to shore and back. The 4,320-foot long, 750-foot wide ship will have more than 200 acres of open-air space – Albawaba.com
