Following five years of church officials’ negotiations with the Qatari government, the Qatari government approved the establishment of the country’s first church. Qatary officials explained that there was nothing revolutionary in this decision and tha other Gulf countries have already done the same in the past.
The Qatari officials emphasized that Qatar respects the rights of all residents to practice their faith and religion, including its 70,000 Christian community, and the Anglican community among them. The church and community center will be set with a budget of $7 million dollars on a plot of land, which was donated to the Anglican community by the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.
