A small bomb exploded in a newly opened branch of Middle East supermarket chain Spinneys in the northern Lebanese port city of Tripoli Tuesday, causing minor damage but no casualties, according to police authorities.
No damage was visible to the branch's huge glass facade and police said they expected the store to reopen by afternoon following the 2:30 a.m. (local time) explosion.
The small 800-gram device was probably a percussion grenade, an officer said. Two other devices found near the store were safely defused, AFP reported.
Several local Parliament Members are shareholders in the supermarket, which opened less than two months ago.
A newspaper owned by one of them, Omar Karameh, has criticized the store's personnel policy, accusing it of firing city residents while keeping on those from the surrounding countryside. (Albawaba.com)
