A blast rocked a car park outside a McDonald's fast-food restaurant in Turkey's largest city of Istanbul on Thursday but there were no injuries, Turkish television reported.

Television footage showed two cars completely gutted by the explosion, which took place in the Acibadem district on the Asian side of Istanbul at about 6:15 p.m. [local time]. Police quickly cordoned off the area, according to Reuters.

CNN Turk reported that police had received an anonymous phone call warning 15 minutes before the blast.

The private TV8 channel quoted police radio as saying the blast was from a percussion bomb, which makes a loud bang but causes little damage, though the pictures of the destroyed cars suggested it might have been something more powerful. (Albawaba.com)
