A three-sided European delegation will hold talks in Cairo on Thursday with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on means of combating terrorism in the wake of the attacks on the US, reported the official Kuwaiti news agency (KUNA).

Belgian Ambassador to Cairo Paul Bounjer said Tuesday that the talks between the delegation and Mubarak would focus on the European stance after the recent European summit and the significant measures adopted to confront terrorism.

Bounjer, whose country is chairing the EU, anticipated that the talks would tackle the possibility of holding an international conference on combating terrorism, adding that this issue had been raised during Mubarak's tour of a number of European countries.

He said the talks would also tackle the situation in the Middle East, expressing at the same time concern of his country and the EU regarding the escalation of tension in the region.

He stressed that Europe was striving to persuade the concerned parties to implement the Mitchell Report, said the agency.

The delegation is currently in Iran, the second leg of a tour that will also take the delegation to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria.
