Foreign ministers of the 15-nation European Union will examine the latest developments regarding Iraq when they meet in Luxembourg next Friday for their regularly scheduled general affairs council meeting, a French official said.
The talks will take place as part of a full agenda for the ministers, said the official, adding that the situation in the Middle East and Macedonia would also top the agenda.
Meanwhile, AFP said that Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Hiaxuan phoned his French counterpart Hubert Vedrine Friday to exchange views on Iraq and other Middle East issues.
Tang said China was willing to strengthen its consultations with France on the issues, Xinhua news agency said, cited by AFP.
Vedrine was quoted as responding that he appreciated China's "unique" role in dealing with Iraq, and added that he was also open to greater coordination.
Both foreign ministers agreed that the solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict was through negotiations, the report said.
