The Middle East Excellence Awards Institute, a subsidiary of Datamatix, has announced Emirates Telecommunications Corporation - Etisalat - a winner of the GCC Economic Award 2006. The award is set to honour leaders and organizations that contributed to the development of the GCC economy and industry.
The award was announced during a ceremony that took place at the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai. Mr. Gerhard Shroeder, Former German Chancellor, was the keynote speaker. The event was attended by an array of government figures, economic leaders, businessmen, diplomats as well as key regional and international media organizations. The award was given to Mr. Ahmed Abdulkarim Julfar, General Manager of Etisalat Dubai Region on behalf of the Corporation.
Ali Mohammed Al Kamali, Director, Middle East Excellence Awards Institute said: “Etisalat has set an example to many other corporations and companies in the region, thanks to its achievements. Winning this distinguished award is a recognition of the outstanding and significant contributions of the Corporation in sustaining the economic sector in the UAE. Ahmed Bin Ali, Manager Corporate Communication, Etisalat, congratulated Datamatix and the Middle East Excellence Awards Institute for its remarkable role and efforts in improving the economical environment in the UAE and highlighting the role of the UAE regionally and internationally.

The Gulf Economy Award 2006 is a continuation to a series of other awards honoring Etisalat. Cairo ICT 2006 organizers have honored Etisalat for its participation and support towards Cairo ICT. Etisalat Chairman and CEO, Mohammad Hassan Omran, was also awarded at the Cairo ICT 2006 for his contributions towards the industry and the ICT sector in the region. Moreover, Etisalat has recently received the “Network Pioneer Award” by Network Middle East Magazine and “Outstanding Achievement Award” by IT Weekly Magazine.
It is worth mentioning that the Middle East Excellence Awards Institute has efficiently contributed towards increasing the awareness in the information technology and telecommunications sectors in the last decade. Its awards underlined talents in different sectors in the region. This effort has supported numerous development initiatives and encouraged leadership in many fields.
