Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, has announced that it will re-start its commercial services between Abu Dhabi and Beirut, from Friday 8 September.
The decision was made after the re-opening of Beirut’s Rafik Al Hariri, international airport and consultation with the Lebanese authorities.
Etihad has also ensured that its stringent security measures, concerning the safety of all of those flying to and from Beirut have been met.
“Etihad is delighted to be resuming flights to Beirut, which is one of our most popular destinations. There is a strong bond between the people of Lebanon and the UAE, and our services will continue to reunite those who were separated during the conflict,” said Geert Boven, acting CEO and VP commercial, Etihad Airways.
During the conflict in Lebanon, Etihad was forced to cancel its operations to Beirut due to the closure of the airport, but the airline operated additional services to Damascus, Syria.
“Even though we were unable to fly directly to Lebanon, Etihad remained committed to our Guests and increased services to neighbouring countries. We remained in close contact with our colleagues in Lebanon throughout this time,” concluded Boven.
During normal service, Etihad operates an Airbus A330-200 between Abu Dhabi and Beirut.
Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, EY 111 departs Abu Dhabi international airport at 1300, and arrives at Beirut at 1525. The return flight, EY112 departs from Beirut at 1640, arriving in Abu Dhabi at 2055.
