ALBAWABA - Tensions are flaring up between North and South Korea once again, as North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un makes a bold move. In a recent statement, Kim said that "peace with South Korea cannot be achieved through negotiation," essentially keeping the decades-long conflict between the two countries going.
This escalation comes as both South Korea and the United States conduct military exercises, and North Korea continues to test its nuclear missiles. These actions are making things even more tense on the Korean Peninsula.
During a visit to the Ministry of Defense on the 76th anniversary of the army's establishment, Kim instructed the military to get ready for war. He was accompanied by his daughter, whom he's been seen with a lot lately.
Kim's words directly point to South Korea as their main enemy, signaling a tougher stance towards their neighbor. His statement that "peace can't be achieved through negotiation" is a departure from past attempts to talk things out.
Last year, Kim said they were giving up on reuniting with South Korea, saying that they're basically two enemy states now.
The lack of a peace deal since the Korean War ended in 1953 means that technically, North and South Korea are still at war. That's why Kim's recent challenge to South Korea is such a big deal.
