Kudroli Azimulla of GASCO achieved the highest scores in the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) examination. Ravindran Subbiah of Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation scored the best results in the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) examination.
Some 250 UAE-based candidates from the fields of finance, IT, auditing, IS consultancy and IS security took the CISA and CISM examination, in which a pass score of 75 is required.
Nigel Hopkins, Emirates’ Executive Vice President Service Departments, presented the awards at a ceremony in the Movenpick Hotel during the annual meeting of the UAE chapter of the US-based Information Systems Audit & Control Association (ISACA).
He said: “Security of information systems is essential in today’s business which relies so heavily on IT. It’s equally important therefore for personnel working in the field to keep their skills current through professional certification such as CISA and CISM.
“I am very pleased to present the Emirates Awards for excellence in Information Systems Auditing. They reaffirm Emirates’ policy of recognising and rewarding excellence in business.”
The CISA certification is the only programme recognised globally throughout the Information Systems Audit and Control community and is used as a criterion for employment and advancement in many organisations.
The CISM certification is specifically geared toward experienced information security managers and those who have information security management responsibilities. CISM is designed to provide executive management with assurances that those earning the designation have the required knowledge and ability to provide effective security management and consulting.
Based in Chicago, ISACA was established in 1969 and now represents over 47,000 members in more than 140 countries. In the area of IT governance, control and assurance, ISACA plays a key role through its CISA and CISM certification programmes and by establishing international standards and code of professional ethics to guide and govern the profession.
The Internal Audit department of Emirates spearheaded the formation of the UAE chapter as ISACA’s 150th chapter in 1997, and continues to play a major role in its management. In 1999, Emirates instituted the annual Emirates Award for excellence in the CISA examination, which has been extended to include CISM certification.
