The Emirates Diagnostic Clinic, a multidisciplinary facility that has offered clinical and diagnostic care to families and individuals for 22 years, held a discussion at the Indian Association on Wednesday, 10 May 2006 for women on osteoporosis, to create awareness of a disease that primarily afflicts females. 35 women attended the discussion about the disease.
The discussion is a part of EDC’s efforts to provide the women of Dubai with information and expertise to combat common diseases like osteoporosis. The talk was lead by EDC’s Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr. Jaimala Shukla.
“The goal of EDC is to promote good health in the community and one of the best ways of doing that is by implementing testing and educational programs to as many people as possible,” said Dr. Shukla. “Early detection of osteoporosis is one of the keys to ending the damage it is capable of doing, and we hope this program can help lead to that. The women present here today have received appointment cards, which will allow them to visit the EDC and have their bones checked with a bone densitometer”
Helpline, the group responsible for setting up the discussion, was also pleased with the results. Rajul Chander, an organiser for Helpline said, “We are grateful to the EDC for its efforts in educating the community about this disease. The program put on by the doctors was highly educational and incredibly helpful.”
