Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani received at his Emiri Diwan office on Wednesday afternoon General Tommy Franks, Commander of the US central command and his accompanying delegation.
Qatar has recently emerged as among the most accommodating of Gulf allies for U.S. military forces in the war against terror, but it has not publicly supported military action against Iraq.
Cooperation relations between the two countries and ways of strengthening them, particularly in military domains were discussed during the meeting. A wide-range of regional and international issues of joint interest were also reviewed, according to Qatar News Agency QNA. Al Thani also holds the defense portfolio in the Qatari cabinet.
The meeting was attended by Major General Hamad bin Ali al Attiyah, chief of staff of the Qatari armed forces; Deputy chief of the Emiri protocols Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Saud al Thani and Maureen Quinn, US ambassador to Qatar, QNA concluded. (Albawaba.com)
