ALBAWABA - The Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel was founded by Ismael Zambada Garcia, also known by the pseudonym "El Mayo," and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, the son of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, was also arrested, according to confirmation from the U.S. Department of Justice. El Paso, Texas, is the location of the arrests.

Attorney General Merrick Garland highlighted in a statement how these arrests have affected the Sinaloa cartel, which is thought to be the main supplier of fentanyl in the US.

Key members of the infamously deadly Sinaloa cartel, Zambada Garcia and Guzman Lopez, were both captured, according to Garland, and will soon be facing legal procedures.

Son of "El Chapo," Ovidio Guzman is another well-known member of the Sinaloa cartel and was formerly among the most sought drug dealers in the United States. He was apprehended in Culiacan, Mexico, in February 2023 as part of an operation, and in September he was extradited to the US.

Following several well-publicized jail escapes from Mexico in 2001 and 2015, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was finally apprehended in January 2016 and turned over to U.S. authorities. In July of last year, he was given a life sentence in New York.
