Egyptian police forces killed two suspected militants during clashes on Wednesday in the upscale Cairo neighborhood of Maadi, Reuters reported.

Although raids targeting Islamist militants are common in Egypt, they rarely occur in areas like Maadi, a neighborhood home to a large expatriate community and wealthy Egyptians.

Egypt has been cracking down on Islamist militants and Muslim Brotherhood supporters since the army ousted former president Mohammad Morsi in 2013, Egypt's first democratically-elected ruler. Militant attacks have mostly targeted soldiers and police, but civilians have been attacked as well.
