An Egyptian police officer has had his pay slashed and been moved to another beat as punishment for physically and verbally assaulting two doctors.

Al Messa newspaper said that the officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Rifai, responded violently when Ayman Ramadan and Mohammad Ibrahim argued with him over a complaint they had filed at the station where he served.

The two were filing the complaint against a policeman who allegedly attacked Ramadan at the Tookh Hospital in Qalyoubiyya.

According to the report, the policeman’s sister had been hospitalized to give birth, but Dr. Ramadan, an obstetrician, told her that she was not due for two more days. She left the hospital without permission from her doctor, and when she returned later for a check-up, was told that the fetus was dead.

Her brother apparently held the doctor responsible and went to the hospital, where he assaulted him in front of other hospital staff.

The obstetrician, accompanied by his colleague Ibrahim, later went to the police station to report the incident, where they had the clash with Rifai.

The two doctors complained about the assault to the chief police officer in the province, who punished the lieutenant colonel and ordered a court martial of the policeman who carried out the first assault – Albawaba.com
