Police have arrested fifteen alleged members of the Muslim Brotherhood in the southern part of Egypt for attempting to "revive" the banned Islamist organization, security sources said Wednesday.
The 15 were picked up Tuesday in the region of Sohag, about 500 kilometers south of the capital Cairo, and were also charged with forming a secret group, the sources said.
However, Brotherhood sources said the crackdown was "revenge" for a lawsuit filed by three of the detainees who had been arrested two months earlier, Al-Hayat reported Wednesday.
The three had charged that they were held illegally and tortured, and a Cairo court was set to review the allegations next Monday. (Albawaba.com)
