The emirate of Dubai is gearing up preparation for the 10-day New Year carnival that to be held in cooperation of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club from December 23 to January 1.
The New Year Carnival 2002, organized by the Emirates Hobbies Association, will have a different theme every day from 2.p.m to 2a.m., ranging from the Arabian to Chines, Filipino to Damas and again back to the Arabian night to conclude the 10-day event, Khaleej Times reported.
The organizers expect a turnout of 20,000 to 25,000 people each day, and are geared for the crowds who will enjoy the fireworks that to be played every night to adorn Dubai’s sky.
Aref Al Abbar, Chairman of the Emirates Hobbies Association was quoted by the Dubai-based paper as saying that "the carnival is aimed at attracting youth and families, and will bring together sports, artistry, music, dance and food together in 10 days of vibrant festivity."
He added that there would be variety entertainment, fun fairs, acrobatics and concerts in the evenings.
According to Al Abbar, during the day the sports village will host competitions such as football, volleyball and street ball being held during the day, between teams of universities, government departments, various communities, private sector companies and associations, with Dh100,000 in prize money for the winning teams up for grabs.
Other than recreational activities like camel riding, horse riding, cycling, four-wheel motorcycling, diving and a magic show, there will also be performances, battle of the bands, deejaying and fashion shows by wellknown artistes and groups for students and youngsters, the daily said.
