Organizers of a major tech event in Dubai, Stars 2001, said Thursday that they hoped that Microsoft chief Bill Gates would accept their invitation to attend the world's first annual celebration of technology to be held in October, reported Gulf News.
Briefing a gathering on the aspects of Stars 2001, which will have a total spend of about Dh36.7 million ($10m app.), Stars 2001 Chairman Amr Dabbagh was quoted as saying that invitations have been sent out to 100 top celebrities.
"We hope Gates will honor the invitation and make it to the star-studded event which will have the presence of top celebrities like former US President Bill Clinton…"
The paper said that Stars 2001 witnessed two major developments Thursday in the run-up to the mega event when the Stars Foundation and Stars Website were formally launched. Stars Foundation will be a non-profit organization established to raise funds to aid the improvement of people's lives and to support global educational and humanitarian program worldwide.
The Stars Foundation will focus on empowering and protecting the lives of children across every corner of the globe. Stars 2001 will work in association with the Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum and its Unicef programs, the Small Faces Charitable Trust and the United Nations Global Movement for Children, said the report.
The site www.stars-2001.com provides an interactive voting forum through which everyone can vote online for the Stars 2001 Royal Awards. Voting in 14 categories will take place online in more than 40 countries in 31 languages on seven continents by more than 100 million people.
