In a step to stimulate the sluggish air travel sector in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the US, Dubai's Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has reduced aircraft landing fees by half for three months.

The 50 percent reduction is aimed at encouraging airlines hit by reduced revenues and escalating operating costs to bring normalcy back to their services, the UAE’s official news agency (WAM) reported.

According to reports, the DCA measure came on the heels of an initiative taken by the Dubai government last month to provide a $2 billion insurance guarantee for Emirates Airline to ward off any interruption of its operations.

Meanwhile, Emirates Post has announced a 40 percent drop in the rates of Express Mail Service (Mumtaz Post) to Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

An EMS dispatch weighing a minimum 500 grams, from the UAE to any GCC country, will now cost Dh30, against Dh50 charged previously by the UAE postal authority. For every additional 500 grams, Emirates Post will now charge Dh10, the Khaleej Times reported – Albawaba.com
