ALBAWABA - Earlier today, a train collision in El Minya Governorate in Egypt, led to the injuries of dozens of passengers, with at least two carriages sinking into the Ibrahimiya Canal.
Rapid response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, with emergency teams fighting to rescue passengers stranded on the crashed trains. Intital reports revealed that one of the trains was a sleeper train while the other was a regular transports one.
Commenting on the tragic crash, current Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, instructed his deputy official Mohammed Al Tayyib to visit the crash scene and attend to the needs of those affected by the accident.
Abdel Ghaffar also ordered all hospitals within the area to raise alert levels to the maximum, in order to deal with the incoming injuries.
Train traffic on the Cairo Aswan line was interrupted because two railway tractors collided with the 1087 sleeping train near the Abu Qarqas station in Minya.
