Acclaimed American actor Robert De Niro will be heading off to Spain soon in order to receive his first ever lifetime achievement award by the 48th San Sebastian Film Festival, reported the Associated Press on Thursday.
Spanish actor Javier Bardem, who won best actor award in the Venice Film Festival for his highly acclaimed performance as a homosexual Cuban writer in Before Night Falls, will present De Niro with the award on Sept. 29.
De Niro "is a name and a face emblematic of the most risky cinema produced in the United States in the last 25 year," read the festival's statement. "He is capable of physically transforming himself, his voice and his appearance. He is a ductile actor who adapts himself equally to drama, comedy and black cinema."
The San Sebastian film festival will begin Thursday with 10 days of screenings -Albawaba.com.
