The Emirates Hobbies Association will organize the Eid and year-end carnival under the banner of "Dubai - Oasis of Peace and Security" from December 23 to January 1, 2002, the Gulf News reported Saturday.

The carnival, which is sponsored by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), will be held at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club.

The organizing committee Friday discussed the carnival's activities in a meeting attended by association chairman Aref Alabbar, members of the board and representatives of the participating organizations, said the Dubai-based paper.

Eissa Hassan Haddad, chairman of the sports committee, was quoted by the daily as saying that this year's carnival will feature football, beach volleyball and street ball competitions.

Al Haddad added that a 2,000-person stand will be built and a tent will be set up for an international circus which will visit this country for the first time. "A leisure and entertainment city will also be built. Competitions for the best music band, DJ and fashions will also be held."

For satisfying taste and choices, an Indian evening will be held on December 27 and an Arab evening on December 31.

The carnival will also feature motor racing, fun fair, camel and horse riding, billiards and video games. It will also house more than 60 shops for souvenirs and antiques and restaurants offering Arab and international cuisine, the report added – Albawaba.com
