Damascus Radio on Monday criticized the American policy regarding Iraq by indicating that despite the wide-ranging international opposition to a possible war against Iraq, Washington is determined to launch a war on that country without any new Security Council resolution.

In its daily political commentary, the state-run radio emphasized that the objectives of the US war on Iraq are to control the region’s oil as well as to impose a political map through which to achieve a strategic hegemony on the Middle East.

Cited by SANA, the Syrian radio noted the escalation of US threats of war on Iraq which are being faced with regional diplomatic moves rejecting the war and stressing a political solution as well as saving Iraq and the entire region from a war which “nobody can foretell its consequences”.

The radio focused on the Syrian role in this regard to crystallize a regional and an Arab unified stand to distance the “ghost of war” and to implement the United Nations resolutions in case of differences in international relations. (Albawaba.com)
