ALBAWABA - Polish police on Thursday found a crater and scattered debris in the Polish countryside near the border with Ukraine; the crater was left by an unidentified object that was tracked by army radars before it disappeared.
"An unidentified object moving westward was detected in Polish airspace," the operational command of the Polish armed forces said on X, adding that after the sighting at 3:40 a.m it disappeared from radars.
After the disappearance of the object, a Polish military helicopter was sent out to the last known location of the object where it found the crater. “A helicopter crew located the probable crash site of the object in an undeveloped area near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in the Lublin province.
"Officers discovered a crater and scattered debris from an unidentified object in a field located about 2 km from the nearest buildings, between the villages," the police stated on X.
The police added that said crater measured about 10 m wide and that there were multiple reports of a loud bang in Biłgoraj county between the villages of Tarnawa Kolonia and Biskupice.
Poland has been wary of the close proximity of Russian attacks, especially the ones targeting the Ukrainian city of Lviv close to the Polish border, scrambling jets to intercept any potential threat to its airspace.
Pre-emptive sirens sounded in Lublin for a few minutes warning residents of a potential attack but were halted when the cause was investigated.
