The head of the American Congress Middle East Committee Ben Gillman said Saturday that the council appreciates Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s anti terrorism efforts. He said his panel also appreciates Egypt’s support for the international campaign against terrorism in the wake of the attacks in Washington and New York last September.
Gillman's statements came during a reception party, which he made for the Cairo-based American Chamber of Commerce delegates, currently visiting Washington.
Meanwhile, the delegation met with the US Secretary of State assistant for general diplomatic affairs, Catherine Bears, who stressed the importance of understanding between civilizations and the need for the American people to understand Islam and its tolerance and the Arabic cultures.
Egypt came under a harsh attack in the US media and by some congressmen, accusing the US ally of not doing enough to support the anti-terror campaign
But US President George W Bush and top administration officials stressed the important part played by Cairo to ensure stability in the region -- Albawaba.com
