A car bomb went off early Sunday in the town center of Logrono, in northern Spain, causing widespread damage but no serious injuries, police said.

The blast was preceded by four telephoned warnings to different emergency services, in which an anonymous caller said the Basque separatist organisation ETA was responsible for the imminent attack.

The bomb went off in a white Fiat around 6:30 am (0430 GMT), 300 meters (yards) from where the caller had warned of the blast.

It blew out all windows in a 150 meter range, and seriously damaged several buildings in the business district of Logrono.

A few people were cut by flying glass, but none seriously hurt.

There were no victims because of the quick reaction by security forces, the head of Rioja's regional government Pedro Sanz told journalists.

He added that several people were on the streets in the early hours of the morning, which celebrated a local festival this weekend -- LOGRONO, Spain (AFP)
