ALBAWABA - At least 12 people were killed in a fire that broke out in a four-storey residential building in southern China, state media reported Wednesday.
The blaze was reported in Shantou, Guangdong province, and firefighters said it started at around 9:20 pm on Tuesday. The reason behind the fire is still unknown.
The fire was extinguished just after 10:00 pm, China's fire department said in a statement.
"The building on fire was a four-storey self-built reinforced concrete structure," the Chaonan District Fire and Rescue Team stated, adding, "Investigations into the cause of the fire and aftermath handling work are being conducted in an orderly manner.
China's state media outlet, Xinhua, revealed that a total of 12 people had been killed.
