Mercedes-Benz defines a new class of vehicles with its R-Class, the Grand Sports Tourer. Bosch supplies products for the new model which will make the car run safer, cleaner, and more economical. Gasoline engines are fitted by the automotive supplier, for example, with the engine management, intake module, spark plugs, ignition coil, hot-film air mass meter, lambda and other sensors. The diesel engine has been made into a silent-running, clean power box with 3rd generation Common Rail by Bosch with piezo inline injectors. This system reduces not just exhaust emissions from the diesel engine but also its operating noise and fuel consumption.
“Bosch has a development partnership with Mercedes Benz that goes back a long way, we at Bosch are proud to be associated with such a renowned brand as Mercedes Benz that is synonymous with quality. Since the mid 90’s Bosch has invested over 2 Billion Euros in Research & Development into safer, cleaner more efficient engines and that is why our system components are in the best cars in the industry,” said Oleg Riabstev, General Manager, Middle East operations, Bosch Automotive Aftermarket (Bosch AA).
Night Vision system in S-Class
Bosch has also made a major contribution to other novelties presented by Mercedes-Benz in 2005. The innovative active Night Vision system for better driving in the dark is part of the Bosch scope of delivery for the new S-Class. It allows drivers a better vision extending up to some 150 meters distance of the road ahead including other road users or possible obstacles. Critical situations are identified much earlier and more easily coped with; since the driver is given more time to react. Bosch also fits the new S-Class with the engine management and throttle device as well as spark plugs for gasoline engines, with 3rd generation Common Rail with piezo inline injectors for diesel engines, sensors, the windshield wiper system with twin-motor drive, starter motor, alternator, airbag control unit and park assistant plus pressure pump for the drive dynamic seat. The Bosch subsidiary Blaupunkt produces the cockpit for the new S-Class.
Steering Assist for the A- and B-Class
Bosch as a development partner of Mercedes-Benz has enabled the production of the steering assist for the A- and B-Class. This new function supports the driver in performing optimal steering in critical situations. It enhances or reduces the support provided by the power steering and leads the driver to an optimal turning angle of the steering wheel. For the A- and B-Class, Bosch is also supplier of the Common Rail injection system for diesel engines, the Electronic Stability Program, engine cooler, starter motor, spark plugs and a number of sensors. The Bosch subsidiary Blaupunkt supplies the combination instrument and Bosch subsidiary Van Doorne's Transmissie (VDT) the push belt for the continuously variable transmission.
In the new M-Class, Bosch is supplier of the engine management, injectors, intake module and ignitions system for gasoline engines and 3rd generation Common Rail with piezo inline injectors for diesel engines as well as airbag control, park assistant, starter motor and alternator.
