An explosion took place outside the home of the main Greek Cypriot opposition leader Tuesday morning, causing damage to the building but no casualties, according to police officials.
Local authorities said the blast could have been from a hand grenade thrown at 4:10 a.m. (local time) outside the home of Democratic Rally leader Nicos Anastassiades in Limassol.
"This is a slight on democracy," Anastassiades told Cyprus radio, cited by Reuters.
Anastassiades has been criticized from some segments of his party for calling for a "yes" vote in a referendum on April 24 on whether to approve a UN plan to reunify divided Cyprus.
The Democratic Rally party was expected to meet on Tuesday to review the expulsion of members who rebelled against the pro-UN plan party line. (Albawaba.com)
