A large earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale hit Tokyo and other eastern Japanese cities on Saturday, although there was no danger of tidal waves, the meteorological agency said.
The quake hit at 5:54 pm (0854 GMT).
The epicenter was located in the northeastern part Chiba prefecture, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) east of Tokyo -- TOKYO (AFP)
