Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt and his foreign minister, Louis Michel, will soon embark on a tour of the Middle East, an official statement said.
But no date has been set yet for their tour, which will include Egypt, Israel, and the Occupied Territories, said the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA.
The statement said the officials’ visit to Israel was at the invitation of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
The statement said Sharon repeated the invitation during his meeting with Michel on the sidelines of visit to Berlin on Thursday.
Sharon ended a European tour on Friday where he met German and French officials.
Sharon was due to visit Belgium but cancelled the trip after the Belgian prosecution said legal action was possible against the hawkish premier for alleged war crimes in connection with the 1982 Sabra and Shatilla massacre in Lebanon when he was a defense minister.
The statement, according to KUNA, did not mention whether Sharon and Michel had discussed the legal proceedings during their Berlin meeting – Albawaba.com
