Belgian Foreign Minister Louis Michel arrived in Tehran Tuesday to discuss mutual relations as well as
issues related to the use of nuclear technology with Iranian officials.
Upon arrival at Tehran's Mehrabad International airport, he told reporters his trip to Iran was upon the invitation of his Iranian counterpart, Dr. Kamal Kharrazi.
According to IRNA, he also stressed his country's interest in expanding relations with the Islamic Republic, saying he was interested to know what Iran's views were on the use of nuclear technology.
The Belgian foreign minister also noted he was carrying a message from his government for Iran.
Referring to the mediatory role his country was playing between Iran and European states on issues affecting the two sides, he said he would willingly convey the views of Iranian officials to Europe.
Michel, who is leading a political delegation, is expected to discuss his country's ties with Iran, latest developments in Iraq, the Middle East peace initiative and issues related to Iran's nuclear programs with his Iranian counterpart Kharrazi. (Albawaba.com)
