A week after announcing significant reductions on INET charges, Batelco's Chairman, Ali Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Chairman of Batelco announced on Sunday that a new tariff structure for Integrated Messaging Services (IMS) will be introduced on Monday.

"Batelco has developed its IMS service further to cater not only to business customers, but for home subscribers users as well," he was quoted as saying in a company press release.

"This move comes in line with Batelco's overall strategy to offer its customers the most advanced telecommunication solutions at the most competitive price. Our aim is to keep Bahrain abreast of the latest world developments in communications," he added. "This is vital to maintain its leading position at the forefront of telecommunication technology," he concluded.

"IMS makes communicating with businesses and friends faster, more secure and more reliable. Through your PC you can send and receive messages to fax and telex machines, with email to pagers and mobile phones following in the next release. A typical application of the IMS would be sending a fax to an e-mail address," the press release noted.

According to the press release, as per the new tariff structure, access charges will become optional allowing customers to use their normal dial-up or leased line connection to access IMS. Setup charges will now be replaced with a once off "User License Registration" fee and the "System Based Service" charges will be replaced with an "Application Module" to give the customer complete flexibility and choice over which IMS service is used. Usage will be charged as per the normal telephone and telex charges for personal and business customers."

Batelco is a public shareholding company of which the government of Bahrain owns 39 percent of Batelco's shares, British Cable & Wireless holds a strategic 20 percent share, while the rest of the Bahraini telcos shares are available on the Bahrain stock exhange -- (Albawaba.com)
