Three men attempted to hijack a passenger aircraft of Algeria's Air Algerie company on a domestic flight late Sunday, but were overcome by security staff, officials said, adding that nobody was injured in the course of the incident.
The young men made the hijack attempt on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which was making a 45-minute flight from the eastern city of Constantine to Algiers, airport officials said.
They did not say what the demands of the would-be hijackers were, other than that they had asked to talk to a "top official" when the plane landed at the capital of Algiers, AFP reported.
Security forces surrounded the aircraft on landing and the three were apprehended, officials said. All the passengers and crewmembers were safely taken off the plane. (Albawaba.com)
