Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad left the Syrian capital of Damascus Monday for Egypt to hold talks with his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak on the latest regional developments and bilateral relations.

The one-day visit is expected to focus on the issue of Iraq and the stalled Middle East peace process.

The Tishrin government newspaper said in its editorial that the Syrian and Egyptian leaders' meeting means a serious and joint search for the necessary mechanism to activate bilateral relations.

Furthermore, the Syrian paper said that Damascus and Cairo could have a decisive and historic role in developing joint Arab policy. (Albawaba.com)
