Palestinian lawmaker Hanan Ashrawi was lightly injured Monday near the West Bank city of Ramallah as Israeli soldiers fired tear gas stun grenades at about 600 woman demonstrators, said reports.

Witnesses told Reuters that another three Palestinian demonstrators were also slightly hurt during the peaceful march as they passed an Israeli military roadblock on the road to Jerusalem.

"They attacked us violently. We are unarmed, then they come and say we initiate violence," Ashrawi told Reuters. She was wounded in the leg and treated at the scene by bodyguards.

Carrying Palestinian flags and shouting slogans denouncing the closure, which has been in place in varying degrees of severity for nearly half a year, the woman marched on the Ar-Ram checkpoint, said AFP.

An Israeli army spokesman was quoted by AFP as saying that non-lethal means were used to disperse the crowd at some point during the demonstration, but said "it was a quiet march...and we are checking how (Ashrawi) was hurt" – Albawaba.com
