Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said Wednesday that he had achieved "progress" in attempts to settle the deep political crisis in Lebanon. Talking to reporters after a meeting with Prime Minister Fouad Saniora in Beirut, Moussa said: "We have achieved progress regarding the whole package."
Moussa spoke of "great hope … to achieve progress at all levels. We cannot reach a solution without concessions from all parties."
According to Naharnet, he stated that Lebanon's "future is not at stake," urging the Lebanese people to "hold to hope." Moussa explained that any settlement to the ongoing crisis should be based on a "no winner, no vanquished" formula.
The Arab League official stressed that he will be holding "more meetings" with Lebanese leaders.
