ALBAWABA - A joint statement confirmed that the United States has begun to remove its military from Niger and will be done by Sept. 15 "at the latest".
The joint statement confirmed that the US troops' withdrawal came after a request by the West African nation's military rulers.
Furthermore, the US and Niger agreed to a disengagement deal and American forces began to leave after the African country allegedly said "troops' presence was illegal."
In late December 2023, the French government announced that it had withdrawn the last troops from Niger after a request from the African country's new junta, after years of on-the-ground military support.
The Associated Press reported citing the French Army General Staff, France said the last military aircraft and troops departed Niger by the Dec. 22 deadline put by the Niger junta which cut relations with Paris after the coup in July.
