Algeria's President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, officially announced Sunday that he was standing for April 8th presidential election. In a statement read during a formal ceremony held for this purpose, Bouteflika said that he was seeking re-election to continue implementing his program, which aims, he said, at "restoring civil peace and national reconciliation," "get Algeria working again," and "restore its place in the alliance of nations."
"This is why I hold my hand out to you again today," he declared.
Bouteflika also said that he "had to answer the call of the great number of citizens nationwide, of various political parties and organizations from the civil society" urging him to seek re-election.
