Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika arrived Thursday in Washington for talks with US President George Bush on bilateral and regional issues, reported the official Gulf News Agency (GNA).
The two leaders will discuss "expanding bilateral cooperation between Algeria and the United States in order to give it new momentum," a US official said.
The White House said in a statement last month that Bush "looks forward to discussing bilateral and regional issues with President Bouteflika, including efforts to promote greater prosperity and stability in North Africa."
The two will also discuss the Middle East and north and sub-Saharan Africa, officials said.
