Police in Kashmir have arrested five suspected members of Al-Qaeda cell, assumed to be planning attacks against American and Israeli targets in Delhi, as well as other targets, according to BBC reports. Inspector-General of Police for the Jammu zone in the disputed territory of Kashmir, P. L. Gupta stated that amongst the suspects are a Kashmirian that heads a Pakistini based separtist group and a Kashmirian opposition leader.

"We have arrested five people so far, including a Palestinian and a Pakistani, and both of them have strong links with al Qaeda," Gupta told reporters. He added that a massive manhunt had been launched for another suspected Arab person.

"Their main objective was to kill Americans and Israelis, besides hitting some more installations in the country." He said one of those arrested was a senior figure in the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, one of about a dozen Pakistani-based groups fighting Indian rule in the Himalayan region of Kashmir.

India blames the December 13 suicide attack on its parliament complex on Pakistan-based Kashmiri separatist groups. Thus, India has recalled its ambassador to Islamabad and on Monday ordered the expulsion of a Pakistani diplomat. For its part, Pakistan has condemned the attack and stated it would act against the groups if it is shown evidence of their involvement. (Albawaba.com)
