A Neighborhood Council established by the Naif police station in Dubai has called for means to stop roadside vendors from operating throughout the area, according to Khaleej Times.
Lieutenant-Colonel Dr Al Sallal Saeed Al Huwaidi, Director of the station, stated that the council had pointed out the health and environmental risks of products sold by such vendors.
The products, in most cases, were fake and of inferior quality, he said. A common malpractice was women from CIS states selling such items as watches, pens, lighters, binoculars and other products at restaurants and coffee shops.
The council urged the authorities to set up a committee consisting of police and representatives of the Economic Development Department to tackle the matter which, they said, was negatively affecting Dubai's economic and tourist reputation. (Albawaba.com)
