Armed rebel groups in Algeria have killed 22 people and wounded four others in a period of less than 24 hours, according to security services.
Ten Algerian police officers were killed and two other injured on Wednesday in an ambush near the city of Tizi Ouzou, an estimated 110 kilometers east of the capital Algiers, hospital services said.
Two police vehicles came under fire from suspected Islamist militants armed with machine guns at around 4:30 p.m. (local time) on the outskirts of Beni Douala in the Berber region of Kabylie, the security services said.
The ambush came a day after 12 people were reported killed and two injured in a shooting at a fake checkpoint near Ain Defla, some 160 kilometers west of Algiers. (Albawaba.com)
