ALBAWABA - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz quietly gave the green light to begin the infrastructure work on the "Green Rafah" project, IDF Radio's Moriah Asraf and Doron Kadosh reported Sunday.
According to Hebrew sources, the approval was given about two weeks ago to start reconstruction work in eastern Rafah in the Gaza Strip.
The decision came at the same time as the Israeli Army announced the deployment of a multinational force to Gaza, but it has not yet been disclosed.
Following Netanyahu and Katz's approval, contractors and workers, who will be Palestinians from Gaza, will now start working on earthwork, electrical, water, and sewer projects.
What is the "Green Rafah" project?
The "Green Rafah" is an area located in eastern Rafah designated for a residential project for Palestinians outside Hamas's control. The project is following the deal agreed by Hamas and Israel to halt the 2-year conflict.
Media detailed that it is located within the Yellow Line in an area currently controlled by the Israeli forces. The place was fully cleared and sanitized and is now empty, according to i24news.
The "Green Rafah" reconstruction project comes as part of the Board of Peace plan for post-war arrangements in the enclave.
The Guardian said the board has issued its first construction contract for a planned military site inside the war-torn city, intended to host a rotating contingent of about 150 Moroccan soldiers.
The "Green Rafah" will be supervised by Arkel International, a company that has previously carried out projects for the U.S. government in Iraq.
