ALBAWABA - At least 20 people were injured in a huge explosion at a fuel depot in Iraq's Sulaymaniyah city, local media reported Monday morning.
Health authorities in Iraqi Kurdistan said 20 people were injured in a massive explosion at a fuel depot in Sulaimaniyah province.
Till this moment, there has been no official statement from Iraqi authorities regarding the cause of the blast and fire at the oil derivatives depot in the Tanjero area.
However, some sources suggested that the huge explosion could be caused by a possible fuel leak from one of the tankers, leading to a massive fire that spread to 34 gasoline tanks and four gas tanks.
The director of health in Sulaymaniyah said 20 people were injured, with no deaths recorded. Additionally, rescue teams and firefighters rushed to the scene to combat the blaze.
Hersh Salim, the deputy director of health in Sulaymaniyah, announced earlier that the explosion occurred at an oil derivatives depot in the province, but he said the cause remains unclear.
Footage broadcast by local media showed a massive fire erupting after the explosion at the fuel depot, with flames spreading across the site.
