It looks to be doing some great business this weekend.
The horror film, based (loosely) off of half Stephen King’s novel, is the first in a two-part duology. It got good reviews (read Al Bawaba’s review here), but has exceeded all expectations by scoring an impressive $51 million—breaking records for September openings, for R-rated film openings, and potentially for horror film openings.
Hollywood has had an ugly summer; movie attendance has dropped to a 25 year low. This is giving studios a needed confidence boost.
Directed by Andreas Muschietti, It focuses on misfits who go up against the demonic shape-shifting clown that haunts their town, played by Bill Skarsgård.
