ALBAWABA - Rumors spread on social media in the last couple of hours that the Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos reportedly converted to Islam.
The speculations online started when Ali Şahin, a lawmaker from Türkiye's ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), announced that the football player converted to Islam about four weeks ago.
Şahin made the announcement about Roberto Carlos after meetings with representatives of Brazil's Muslim community in São Paulo.
According to the Turkish lawmaker, Şahin said that Sheikh Jihad Hammadeh, who is a well-known person in the Muslim community in Brazil and vice president and religious adviser of the National Association of Islamic Jurists (ANAJI), told him about the Brazilian footballer.

Did Roberto Carlos convert to Islam?
It is worth noting that Roberto Carlos, who is followed by over 10.5 million people on Instagram, recently got married to Suhayla At Tohiri, a prominent Moroccan-born football agent based in Spain. At Tohiri is Muslim and was raised with Arab roots.
Suhayla At Tohiri's Islamic marriage to Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos recently gained global media attention.
However, Carlos, the former Fenerbahçe star, didn't make any public comment or declare that he embraced Islam.
